A declined renewal is paid in one step — and Join never takes a second payment
When a member’s auto-renewal card is declined, their email, their member hub, their member card and the Join page now all take them to one button: Pay My Renewal. They sign in, enter a new card, and the renewal is paid on the spot — on the same auto-renewal, which keeps the new card for next year. (Updating a card alone paid nothing until Stripe tried again days later, and we no longer say it does.) A member who clicks Join while their auto-renewal is on is shown what fits instead of a second membership: “You’re all set” with their renewal date, or Pay My Renewal when the renewal didn’t go through. If a member does pay a one-time membership while their renewal is declined, it now counts as that renewal: their date moves on a full term and the declined auto-renewal is stopped, so it can’t charge them again. A member who turned auto-renew off and renews through Join pays as their existing Stripe customer, with their card already there. When you correct an auto-renewing member’s end date before their auto-renewal has started billing, Stripe’s first charge moves with it, and the page says so. And the admin home lists any membership end date that may still include an unpaid year from before September 25, with the date their payments support and one click to set it or keep it.
